Hello Jeremy. There are a lot of retail POS systems out there that I would consider as top contenders. But my choices are based on certain standards, which may or may not coincide with the requirements of your enterprise. So what I did is list several questions that you should ask yourself and your POS software provider when you scour the market for a point of sales software.

#1 Does the software provider or vendor offer presentations and clear explanations on how their retail POS system can help your business and ultimately aid you in achieving your business goals?

Whenever you shop around for software, there is a huge chance that you do not know what you are looking for but you are well aware of what you want and what your business needs are. It is important that a software vendor provide an insight on how their systems can elevate your business. Vendors should know their software and therefore, can easily dispense sound advice provided you equip them with the necessary information such as your retail model. More importantly, they should be able to justify the returns of investment.

#2 Will there be a team dedicated to help you with installation and implementation process?

Most vendors include a project management team to go with your purchase. The group is there to help you out with the installation procedure, which may experience glitches and other technical issues that require high level of IT expertise. The team also includes a highly qualified trainer who will train you and your staff  with the complexities and intricacies of the system.  A good POS vendor ensures that you get technical expertise and immediate support as well as a dedicated staff of experts to help you get the most out of your POS software and ultimately help you achieve your desired ROI the fastest way possible.

#3 Does the vendor provide a list of other clients whose retail model are similar to yours?

It is a good indication when vendors provide their potential clients with list of former and current customers that have the same business models and present how their system greatly benefited from their products. These references can also be a good source of first hand information if you decide to ask them directly how they find their POS and inquire about their experience with the software.

#4 Is there a turnkey solution offered by the provider for equipment, maintenance, software, support and training?

A topnotch retail POS solution not only offers high quality customer support for clients, but also a single support hub that their customers can immediately go to whenever they experience any difficulty. It is like having a single number to call for a myriad of problems. You definitely do not want to keep an extensive list of phone numbers for different types of support, do you?

#5 Does the vendor focuses on your industry?

While there many retail POS software vendors out there, it is always a best practice to go for a system that concentrates on the industry where you business belongs. This results to seamless transitions, smooth transactions, and a better understanding between vendor and client. It is always nice to have someone who knows the technicalities and needs of your business even without you saying word, isn’t it?
